I'm running a 400watt mono class D amp (kicker 400.1) to two 12" 1300watt sony xplod subwoofers and I found a bass test track that runs from 20khz to 20hz. I'm afraid if i let it reach 20hz it could blow my subwoofers so i keep stopping it when it starts rattling my brain. Would the subwoofers survive 20hz at high-ish volumes?

is your box ported? if it is then you dont want to use tones too much lower than that. If you're in a sealed box then you should be ok.

Watch the cone excursion. If it starts to bottom out or rattle, I wuld stop. Cone excursion might be 1/2 to one inch?

just don't gain up to high, otherwise you can blown the amplifier out. I would suggest you to switch it to Kicker ZX750.1D amp if you want to gain all that way up.

you can use a 400 watt amp. just know that you will be slightly underpowering the speakers. be careful not to turn the gains up too high to try and compensate if you don't think it's loud enough.

when you say clear bass that has more to do with box/ installation than the subwoofer itself in most cases. A cheapo $40 subwoofer can sound clear in the right box it just won't be loud. Everything has to work together to get what you want. that's why they call it a stereo "system "

for 170 your not going to get anything decent, Unless you getting the Comp CVR 15 inch ones' they are not that good compared to 12 inch CVX's for about the same price your paying for it. any thing from 15 inch L5, CVX, and L7 is going to cost more than 170 dollars, unless you find some used ones, my friend sold his 15 inch L7 for 500 dollars one Pair, he have used that for 2 years. Plus 12 inch CVX just sound as good as 15 inch L5, I have owned 2 12 inch CVX before kick butt woofer. Running on the MTX TE1501D amp. very nice system, but yea if your looking for 15 inch woofer I would suggest you looking at something different your not going to get a decent 170 dollar 15 inch Kicker woofer.
