I have kicker 12" VCR subs….. They are 800 watt max ….. I have a presitge 1000 watt amp mono block(PAB-1000 D)…. First i couldn't afford but one of my subs so when i got it i hooked it up to my amp and it worked really good!!! Then I get the second sub in and hook it up exactly the same and neither sub barly works….. It kept blowing the fuses in my amp and wire … so then i go and get a new wiring kit.. i thought i had to little wire for the amp… i re wire the amp with 8 gauge wire… and it still won't work. I called a audio place and they told me i was overloading my amp….My subs are dual voice coils and are 4 ohm….. my amp is 500X2 ohm, 300×4 ohm . As you can tell i don't know much at all about wiring subs and please somebody send me a diagram to how to connect right and get the max power…. if anyone can help me please do.. thanks

What it sounds like you did is wire the voice coils of both subs in parallel (+ to + and – to – ) and then wired both speakers in parallel. This would have produced a 1ohm load for the amp, which is not a stable load. When you had one sub, you likely wired it in parallel which combined both voice coils to produce a 2ohm load. This gave 500 watts to the sub which was good.

Unfortunately, since this amp isnt stable at 1ohm, your only option is to wire the voice coils in series on each sub and then wire the two subs in parallel. This will give a 4ohm load to the amp which is a stable load. To wire the coils in series, do the following: connect the negative of one coil to the positive of the other coil. The remaining positive and negative go out to connect with the remaining positive and negative from the other sub. You will wire the coils on the other sub in the same way: the negative of one going to the positive of the other and the remaining positive and negative going out to the amp. Unfortunately, since the voice coils are 4ohms each, there isnt a way to wire both subs and get the maximum output (i.e. a 500watts x 1 @ 2ohms).

Also, you can try using 8 guage wire but it may not be big enough to allow for the proper current. I dont know what the amperage rating is for the amp but most class D 1000 watt amps use 4 guage wire. The manual online indicates 10guage or higher… very strange. Personally, if it were my amp, I would go with 4guage just to be safe.
