its close, the type r will hit a little lower/deeper but the sensitivity is lower, the cvr's sensitivity is almost 2dB higher so even though its rated 100watts RMS lower it will be louder because a speaker with a sensitivity rating that's 3 dB higher than another speaker's only needs half as much power to deliver the same amount of sound

i would go with the Kicker at the end of the day

i have heard both subs…alpine make an amazing sub for sound quality its very clean and hits very hard, however type r's s are notorious for blowing, don't plan on pushing them to far over rms they wont last as long as the cvr's will either…however the cvr lacks a little in the sound qualitly deparment but kills in spl , very dependable, this sub can take take so much abuse, i ran mine way over rms. I would go with kicker all the way…but its all about personal prefrence, my advice to you is go listen to both in their optimum enclosures

i would take the type R's over the cvrs anyday they handle 500w rms compared to the cvrs 400 and they have been known to be underated on power handling meaning the can handle 600-700w rms
